The Individual Learning Program

Open to students Grades 1 – 10

Often, learning at school becomes a challenge that shows up in low test scores and disappointing end-of-term reports.
A student may not have an adequate bank of vocabulary, and may not have developed the comprehension and higher order thinking skills needed to excel.
When students understand what they read, success is more easily achieved in subjects such as language and literature, history, geography and science.

Help your child to be a better, more proficient reader. Speak to us about our one-on-one coaching.

How it works

All our classes are held online via Zoom. Each session lasts 50 minutes.
Parents can book for private, one-on-one classes with one of our tutors.

Options

For our Individual Learning Program, we offer three paths:
Grades 1 - 2:
Sign up your child to read and enjoy stories chosen from age-appropriate texts, including stories by writers such as Else Holmelund Minarik, Dr. Seuss, and Richard Scarry, as well as selected Aesop’s Fables.

Reading aloud, one-on-one, with a trained literacy professional works magic to bring pages alive. Additionally, talking about the words and pictures on each page encourages the brain to make sense of what is being read.

More than just nurturing comprehension skills, this process helps your child fall in love with reading!

Grades 3 – 7:
Sign up your child for one-on-one tuition using either our Story Circles World methodology or their own school-based learning materials.

Students who need to catch up on fundamental grammar and vocabulary can do so using a variety of materials selected as needed from school-based texts as well as stories and coursework taken from our Story Circles World program.

Students who have Grade 3 competencies in reading and writing are welcome to pursue the Story Circles World program.
Grades 8 – 10:
Secure a better future for your child by providing one-on-one reading support using their own school-based learning materials. We help students to make sense of what schools expect them to read and understand on their own.

A student may need to expand their word bank, to perfect sentence structure, and to write essays  such as expository, narrative or argumentative. Our one-on-one tutoring explains the writing process and offers ample practice. We help students develop self-editing skills so that they become better writers.
