What you are going to learn

A few more words about Story Circles 3

Over the course of ten weeks, your child will enjoy reading and discussing ten narratives in the forms of short stories and poems.

We will use each story and poem to develop reading, writing and critical thinking skills.

Your child will continue learning about sentence structure. These classes offer sustained practice in using simple, compound and complex sentences.

Best of all, your child will write his/her own stories, and read them out loud in our small group!
Throughout this course, children will develop their skills in English Language Arts. Your child will:
  • Read and listen to stories and poems from around the world
  • Imagine the narrative through drawing
  • Learn about syllables and use this knowledge to help with spelling
  • Practise using new vocabulary
  • Improve reading comprehension
  • Learn about simple, compound and complex sentences
  • Write short stories
  • Develop poise and confidence through reading out loud

About
Hello! Story Circles World represents my lifelong passion for reading and the teaching of reading and writing. Our curriculum is built using stories from around the world - the most exciting way to open up the world to children. I started teaching as a little girl growing up in Tobago, when I used to line up my toys in the front porch and deliver daily lessons. As I grew older, all I really wanted was to be a writer. Nevertheless, my wise and persuasive mother ensured that I became a teacher. So, I have taught - people of ages 4 - 64, in Trinidad and Tobago, as well as in Toronto and Halifax. Now online, English language teaching remains a joyful, deeply satisfying part of my life.
